You have probably been told it is really bad to translate when you are learning English or a foreign language.

There has been plenty of valid arguments put out there that we should not use translation when learning a language. The person you’re speaking with is going to get pretty bored if you have to stop and use your translator every time you want to say something—or understand what they’re saying. You aren’t going to develop the cognitive skill to speak if you are relying on translation.

But when you use it the right way, translation can help you on your English language journey and in today’s episode I share the times when translation could be beneficial but also when you want to avoid translating and how to know if it is preventing you from improving.
