When to use formal or informal language?
It can be hard to know if the language you are using is appropriate? Am I being too formal? Do I come across as unfriendly? Am I being too personal and it makes others feel awkward?

I find that many people who speak English as a second language either fall into the category of using very informal language or very formal language.

Depending on how you have acquired the language and the influences you have had (whether you learned at university, living in an English speaking country, or watching your favourite movies and series).

It’s difficult to know which phrases or language to use in which settings. The truth is, it’s not as simple as formal or informal. There are five varieties of formal or informal registers.

In today’s episode I am going to be sharing 5 examples of professional formal language and their alternative informal or slang version as well as a standard version with examples of when they are used in real life situations.
