As useful as feedback can be, usually, we are reluctant to give it. When we give critical feedback, many of us worry that it comes across as rude or too direct.
Sometimes you will receive negative feedback that is hidden in niceties. It sounds like you are being given a compliment, but actually it’s critical. The sandwich method is used to soften the feedback in the hope it will make the feedback receiver more comfortable. You sandwich the negative feedback between two pieces of positive feedback. The idea is to balance the negative feedback with positivity.
Many leaders have used the very common sandwich method to deliver feedback. In today’s episode I am sharing why we should this method and what to do instead.
